It is difficult to believe the huge number of new inventions and ideas that were introduced around the world during the 1700's! The steam engine, locomotive, telegraph, dynamite, and typewriter are only a few. Meanwhile, empires and rulers rise and fall as Napoleon comes to power and invades countries throughout Europe. Slaves start the fight for freedom in Haiti and Lewis and Clark explore and map North America with the assistance of Sacagawea. As we study these historic events, we will gain a better personal understanding of and appreciation for freedom, equality, courage, and persistence.
